What is search engine optimization? (SEO)

I am writing this article for those who are serious about getting their site to the top of search engine listings like Google, msn, yahoo etc. Don't read another word if search engine optimization is not your priority now. Those who are interested promise me you are going to use my guidelines on your pages to reap financial benefits. Then lets get to the big question.
Lets begin with our primary question. What is Search Engine Optimization (SEO) ?
As per wikipedia :- “Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via "natural" ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results for targeted keywords. Usually, the earlier a site is presented in the search results or the higher it "ranks", the more searchers will visit that site. SEO can also target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines.” In short this is what you need if you want your site listed when some one searches for a particular keyword in the top search engines. From now on when we say Google it will refer to all major search engines that use organic search method like windows live search, overture, yahoo etc etc.

What is your Situation? Lets assess your current standings.

Lets assume you are a beginner in web development and SEO arena. I will further assume that you have a website ready where you have the complete authority over the code. You are a blog owner then then it is OK but a website with full control is more preferable. Now lets take it for granted that you have posted various posts or articles and added one of the popular advertising programs to get revenue from the site. I know that most of you urge other people to click your adds and you return the favor by clicking on their adds. This is not advisable and is against the terms and conditions of the of the advertisers. The right way is to attract visitors to your site by Search engine optimization and useful content. Believe me you are not going to achieve anyhting by mutual clicking or referal sign ups. This will get you hardly $100 in two to three months and there is always the fear that Google will ban you anytime. Those who worked on their sites seriously are earning in 1000 dollars every month ans some are even making the same amount every day.
